World ROP Congress

Delhi 2009

World ROP Congress 2009 is the 2nd international conference on retinopathy of prematurity to be held on 21-23 November 2009 in New Delhi, India. The theme of the conference is No-ROP: Partnership, Prevention and Planning.

In light of the 3rd epidemic of blindness due to ROP which is currently taking place in middle income countries and in the emerging economies of Asia, the purpose of this 2nd international meeting is to provide a forum for ophthalmologists, neonatologists and neonatal nurses to share knowledge and experiences concerning risk factors and the pathogenesis of ROP, what can be done to prevent and treat the condition, and how programmes for control can best be set up and run.

The organizing committee cordially invites you to attend the World ROP meeting at New Delhi, India which will feature a comprehensive overview of all aspects of ROP ranging from current concepts to aetiology, screening, research and management practices. Top ROP experts will deliver presentations while worldwide management trends and changing profile of ROP will be highlighted. The rich scientific program ensures everyone will have an opportunity to participate via free papers and poster presentations.

The conference will be hosted at Hotel Le Meridian in New Delhi, the capital of India. New Delhi is well known for its rich culture and heritage and offers a diverse range of tourism opportunities in and around the city.

Travel Grants

The Bernadotte Foundation For Children’s Eyecare, Inc. is engaged in the promotion and funding of advanced research and clinical study of eye diseases and defects in visual development found in children around the world. The Bernadotte Foundation has graciously provided $5000 travel grants for international delegates and $5000 travel grants for Indian delegates. International delegates can contact Dr Marilyn Miller (marimill@uic.edu) for the same. 5 international delegates and 23 Indian delegates were awarded travel grants by Dr Gerd Holmstrom on behalf of the Bernadotte Foundation on day 2 in the awards ceremony.

POSTER WINNERS

  1. First Prize: Wei-Chi Wu – Long-term tolerability and serum concentration of bevacizumab (avastin) when injected in newborn rabbit eyes

  2. Second Prize: Anand Vinekar – Do platelets have a role in the pathogenesis of aggressive posterior retinopathy of Prematurity (APROP)?

  3. Third Prize: Helen Mintz-Hittner – Recurrence following Intravitreal Bevacizumab Monotherapy for Stage 3 ROP

  4. Third Prize: Subina Narang – Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) of Fovea in Eyes with Treatable Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP)

Follow Up Report

The World ROP Congress was attended by over 250 delegates from across the world and featured a comprehensive overview of all aspects of ROP ranging from current concepts to aetiology, screening, research and management practices. With top experts in ROP featured on the scientific program, and a huge line up of over 90 scientific posters, the Congress was an academic feast for one and all. The abstract book comprised a collection of all abstracts submitted to the Congress and will serve as a valuable resource.
